SPECIAL-->Amazing Cloudless skies

Great satellite shot from earlier Sunday showing the intervals of clouds and sunshine, and a large variety of cloud types. Compare that to TODAY's cloudless skies, an amazing shot. I noticed that Mt. Monadnock in SW NH looked like it was right next store, meaning visibility must be over 100 miles today.Make sure to click on this image to the right to truly see how hi-res. the satellite photo is, right down to the twists and turns of the Connecticut river, nevermind the Wachusett and Quabbin Reservoirs.

INCREDIBLE SATELLITE PHOTO!

This incredible satellite shot shows where it snowed and where it didn't on Saturday into Sunday morning. You can even see where the Ocean Effect snow took place on the Cape. . . and the deep snow up in Essex county. Clouds remain offshore today with the NW wind. RADAR UPDATE.. Here it comes

1:40pm IMPORTANT UPDATE:
It is here (and in some places gone already!) The incredible downpour, the shifting winds, the temp drop of 10 degrees in 1 minute, the hail. All in a line from Cape Ann to Boston, and down Rt. 95 at this hour. Won't last long, but hang on, winds to 60mph. Now clearing skies follow with sunshine from NW to SE!!!! But the cold is on its way ushered in by those NW winds!!

Amazing Temperature Drop

The temperature dropped an amazing 10 degrees in about one minute in Harvard, Ma. at 12:50pm. This will fly eastward to the coast within an hour.

Hail with Front!

A wind and hail storm just ahead of the now-famous cold front is flanking the NW Part of Rt. 495 at this hour and penetrating in towards Rt. 128, it is lagging a bit west of Rt. 495 south of the Mass pike, click on radar image and see the mess in central Mass. as of 12:45pm

It is brief, but a fierce wind and local hail storm along with that downpour coming into the Boston western suburbs at this time. After it ends and winds go to NW, they will continue after the downpour ends. 60mph gusts

Winds Building Fast

HIGH WIND WARNING continues.. so far winds to 56mph at Blue Hill in Milton, 46 down in Nantucket sound, the big surprise is full Tropical Storm force steady winds near 40mph out in Pittsfield, Ma., when the winds flipped to NW with thunder and snow! Gusts to 55mph there! We are going to be in this incredible wind field shortly.

What is WRONG with this Thursday Satellite?

Something just doesn't look "right" about the two satellite photos from Thu. PM. Post to the comment section below and to the left. Click on them!

THE 495 BAND is HERE!

4:15 p Local to Boston....It is here! That belt ofheavy snow from Central Mass. is on the move now from Cape Ann to Boston to down Rt. 95 and moving east. It will not last long here, even though it did there! So we won't get that clobbering they had last hour. It will be over shortly. Accumulations now are ranging 8-15", in our range.. will likely top off just above, with that hot spot south of the city verifying, but a bit more than I bargained for out nr. Worcester and some NW spots.

495 Band Fierce on Radar

The Rt. 495 band on radar is fierce.. it should diminish shortly, but was unexpected and leading to above the 12" totals predicted on our map. White out conditions of under 1/4 mile visibility is taking place. at 2:30

MIDDAY SPECIAL UPDATE

11:35  and 1pm followup special update.. NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ARRIVING FROM THE SOUTH... This surface map shows the deep low pressure system hugging the New Jersey shoreline. At first glance one would think this means a very long lived wallop, and indeed, radar below shows a strong belt of snow coming up from the south, ocean enhanced which will push those expected totals to 10-15" as expected with local amounts over 15" just south of Rt. 128 as expected. This is going to be the blizzard part of the storm. Notice another belt of heavy snow that migrated into Worcester county is now also rejoining the belt coming in from the south. This afternoon the worst will end up farther se on the cape.  - Todd  (To see the two bands of snow on the 11:30 radar click on the image and look for the darker shades of green, the 1pm close up radar is below it, notice the bands are stuck, Worc County and metro so uth. The metro south band will make the forecast excellent, we didnt count on the Worc county band to last)
